Politics of Cows, Horses and Dogs

Cows are a religious symbol in India. Some government policies and fringe groups go to an extreme extent in enforcing policies to protect cows. They even banned slaughterhouses and enforced the beef ban. The fringe group gets involved in lynching people who eat beef. Government or the prime minister does not condemn the action by these group just to appease religious group. Since there are many other major religions in India overall beef ban in causing plenty of discussions, controversies, and violence on this topic. Just for the argument, I see it as no different from United Stated banning horse meat or other countries banning Dog meat. Something acceptable in one religion and culture is not acceptable by other. The United States has thousands of wild horses roaming the west and cost millions in taxpayers’ money to monitor and protect them. There are no slaughterhouses of horses in the US and there was even a huge uproar when IKEA's meatballs have horse’s meat mixed in it. There was even US charities group which protested in Asian countries to ban dogs meat. I always wonder how people like to enforce one’s religious ideology on to others and even expect the government to enforce the same. The similar argument can be made for plenty of religious driven government policies in any country. A country like India has far more important things to handle like poverty, women’s safety, public sanitation and I always wonder how the whole of the country is happy to focus on irrelevant things than moving to the main issue. I feel all parties left, center and right just focus on making things better than arguing if it is right or wrong on these petty politics. As a non-religious person, it does not make any sense to me when people talk about sharia law, beef ban or conceptive policies. I just want wonder why cant one just ignores the things he doesn’t agree, care or s not relevant rather than wanting to enforce on to others and community.
